Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach
The manifestations of drug-induced pulmonary diseases span the entire spectrum of pathophysiologic conditions of the respiratory tract. As with most drug-induced diseases, the pathologic changes are nonspecific. Therefore, the diagnosis is often difficult and, in most cases, is based on exclusion of all other possible causes. In addition, the true incidence of drug-induced pulmonary disease is ...

متن کاملUltrafiltration failure in peritoneal dialysis: a pathophysiologic approach.
BACKGROUND Ultrafiltration failure is a significant cause of technique failure for peritoneal dialysis and subsequent transfer to hemodialysis. SUMMARY Ultrafiltration failure is defined as failure to achieve at least 400 ml of net ultrafiltration during a 4 h dwell using 4.25% dextrose. Four major causes of ultrafiltration failure have been described. A highly effective peritoneal surface ar...
متن کاملA Pathophysiologic Approach to Biomarkers in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute-onset hypoxic condition with radiographic bilateral lung infiltration. It is characterized by an acute exudative phase combining diffuse alveolar damage and lung edema followed by a later fibroproliferative phase. Despite an improved understanding of ARDS pathobiology, our ability to predict the development of ARDS and risk-stratify patient...
متن کاملPolyuria with sevoflurane administration: a case report.
Polyuria has been reported as a side effect of sevoflurane administration, but because of its relative rarity, many practitioners are not aware of this potential phenomenon. Polyuria in its extreme form can cause undesirable hemodynamic changes. A case study, in an 18-year-old man, is presented highlighting polyuria as a probable side effect of sevoflurane administration.
